Who Wants Toll Roads?

January 26, 2008

The Kentucky Senate is considering a plan which might put Toll Roads back on our roads.

According to the Owner Operator Independant Drivers' Association, and LandLine Magizine, Senate President David Williams, R-Burkesville, has offered legislation that would authorize the creation of local public infrastructure authorities. Such entities would be able to issue bonds, create tolls for roads and bridges, buy property and enter into contracts with the federal government.

While I am in support of better roads, and of increasing funding for maintenance of the infrastructure, the idea of a toll road which might be sold to a foreign government is disgusting to me.

There are better, and cheaper ways for Kentucky to raise revenue for it's Road Use Fund.  Some of these is to STOP DIVERSION OF THE ROAD USE FUNDS, Raising the Fuel Tax, and increasing Registration Fees of All Motr Vehicles.  All Highway Users should be helping to pay for the good roads we all drive on.  We need to keep them safe and comfortable.

Let me reiterate my OPPOSITION TO TOLL ROADS, that if I am elected I will, to the best of my ability:

MAKE FEDERAL HIGHWAY TRUST FUND DIVERSION A CRIME

MAKE FEDERAL HIGHWAY DOLLARS DIVERSION A CRIME

DECERTIFY ANY INTERSTATE AND FEDERAL HIGHWAY WHICH CONTAINS ANY TOLLS

RESEARCH ALTERNATE ROUTES FOR NEW INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS

RESEARCH CHEAPER WAYS TO RAISE REVENUE FOR MAINTENANCE OF ROADS
